How Spot Technologies Is Revolutionizing Retail Security

In a recent funding round, El Salvador-based artificial intelligence startup Spot Technologies successfully raised $2 million, drawing support from investors such as Femsa Ventures, Bridge Latam, Daedalus, Kuiper, and Casque. Spot Technologies, operating in Chile as well, focuses on developing cutting-edge cloud technology that transforms ordinary cameras in retail and logistics locations into intelligent systems capable of behavior analysis and security enhancement.

Founded in 2018 by Julio Abrego, the co-founder and CEO, Spot Technologies aims to revolutionize the video surveillance industry by employing models, algorithms, and modules for computer vision. Abrego and his team have worked tirelessly on their flagship product, VisionX, which leverages deep learning and computer vision technologies to analyze consumer and theft behaviors.

Unlike its competitors such as SenseTime, BriefCam, AdMobilize, and DeepView, Spot Technologies takes a unique approach with VisionX. One distinctive feature is its modular integration and versatility, allowing for flexible integration of video analysis modules. Abrego likens this approach to assembling Lego pieces, emphasizing the adaptability and customization offered by Spot’s technology.

The focus of VisionX is on transforming existing cameras in supermarkets into advanced tools for detecting consumer behaviors and preventing thefts. Abrego highlights the dual functionality of VisionX, offering both security enhancements and consumer behavior analysis. This combination provides significant added value to customers, making Spot Technologies stand out in the competitive landscape.
