It seems that the new year has brought an unprecedented number of layoffs in the tech industry across the board. Grammarly is next up, announcing the laying off of 230 employees worldwide in an effort to restructure. CEO Rahul Roy-Chowdhury shared insights in a memo, highlighting the company’s commitment to advancing the role of AI in the workplace.
Roy-Chowdhury clarified that the decision wasn’t driven by financial concerns but rather a need to realign teams and capabilities to better focus on AI technology — but that doesn’t make anyone feel any better. Those with the fear that AI will replace them feel they’re living their worst nightmare.
Grammarly is, however, offering a minimum of three months’ pay and continued health insurance benefits for those affected. As Grammarly looks to the future, committing to leveraging AI, we’ll see if they stay ahead of the curve.
