New ChatGPT Features: Temporary Chat

OpenAI is rolling out exciting new updates that promise to revolutionize your AI conversational experience. Today marks the beginning of a test phase, with OpenAI introducing memory controls to a select group of both free and paid ChatGPT users. While the date of the full rollout remains unknown, this initial phase offers a glimpse into the future of AI-powered interactions. These controls empower users to instruct ChatGPT to remember specific details, view its memories, or even turn off its memory function altogether.

In a recent blog post, OpenAI elaborates on this update: “ChatGPT can now carry what it learns between chats, allowing it to provide more relevant responses. As you chat with ChatGPT, you can ask it to remember something specific or let it pick up details itself. ChatGPT’s memory will get better the more you use it, and you’ll start to notice the improvements over time.”

This new feature opens up a world of possibilities. Imagine being able to inform ChatGPT of your preference for driving over public transit, or specifying that you have a kindergartner when seeking parenting advice. With ChatGPT’s memory at your disposal, tailored responses become effortlessly attainable.

Privacy concerns naturally arise with such advancements, and OpenAI is cognizant of this and offers reassurance. Users retain control over memory features, with the ability to disable them at any time. Furthermore, memories can be viewed, deleted, or cleared from the settings menu, ensuring transparency and control.

To safeguard privacy further, OpenAI introduces Temporary Chat—a feature initially available to a select group of users. Temporary Chat provides a clean slate for each interaction, devoid of prior conversation history or access to memories. While OpenAI may retain copies of Temporary Chat conversations for safety reasons, this initiative underscores the commitment to privacy preservation.
