Apple’s Vision Pro: A Glimpse into the Future of Spatial Computing

Apple has officially announced the availability of the highly anticipated Vision Pro, set to drop in the U.S. on February 2. Preorders will commence on Friday, January 19, at 5 a.m. PT.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, described the Vision Pro as “the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created,” heralding the arrival of the era of spatial computing. The device boasts a revolutionary and magical user interface that is poised to redefine how users connect, create, and explore.

Upon launch, the Vision Pro App Store will showcase “more than 1 million” compatible iOS and iPadOS apps, alongside experiences specifically designed for this cutting-edge headset. While the exact number of bespoke Vision Pro apps available at launch remains undisclosed, Apple assures users that a plethora of options will cater to diverse needs.

Apple’s Vision Pro promises an unparalleled gaming experience, offering access to over 250 titles on Apple Arcade. Popular games like NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition and Sonic Dream Team can be enjoyed on a screen of any size, complemented by immersive audio and support for popular game controllers. New spatial games, including Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja, leverage the device’s powerful capabilities to transform the gaming space.

A distinctive feature of the Vision Pro launch is the introduction of a FaceTime experience designed exclusively for the new hardware. Apple envisions FaceTime on Vision Pro as an immersive communication tool, where each person on a call appears life-size, with Spatial Audio enhancing the authenticity of voices by placing them in the respective locations.

To further enhance user experience, Apple will offer ZEISS Optical Inserts at launch. These lenses attach magnetically to the headset, providing users with prescription lenses for $149 and standard readers for $99.
